American Humane Association's Red Star® Rescue Team is in Tennessee right now to help rescue and rehabilitate six horses who are in critical condition. Some of these horses were so malnourished that there’s no way to describe them other than “living skeletons.” Veterinarians on the scene have noted that some of these horses only have a body score of 1 out of 9.
With the help of our good friend and veterinarian, Dr. Jennifer Dunlap – who we worked with just this past March to save 18 starving horses and a mule in Fayette County – we removed the horses and transported them to a facility where they will be given food, medical treatment, and intensive care until they are hopefully out of danger. But we can't do it without you – and these horses need you now more than ever.
We were horrified when we first saw these animals. Some were literally at death's door when we arrived and we can only hope to save as many of them as possible. As these photos show, these animals have a very difficult road ahead, but we will continue to do everything we can to restore them to health.
Your gift will allow our team to have the resources they need to work day and night to care for these horses and it will also make possible all of American Humane Association's programs that protect our nation's children and animals.
From the bottom of my heart – thank you for your generous support – and for helping these poor animals at such a critical time. Their lives depend on you being on their side.
